Now Airtel has come up with a special offer in Karnataka for prepaid...
Recharge with Rs.90/- and get 150 minutes of dedicated STD time. I got Rs.225/- talktime on the dedicated account. On every STD call, a charge of Rs.1.50/- is being charged from dedicated account, however, on a whole the calculation turns out to be 60 ps per minute.
I recharged for Rs.90/- and I get 150 minutes of call.
So Rs. 90/150 minutes =0.60 ps/minute.
So why was Rs. 225/- got ?
Actually I should be charged 0.60 ps/minute by the above calculation, but since they are charging Rs.1.50/- per minute for STD... they have given the cost for 150 minutes @ Rs.1.50/- per minute
1.50 * 150 minutes = Rs.225/-
Now some one would wonder why such a complicated calculation is required ?
What I felt is to create the WOW effect !
You first get the feeling of getting 0.60 ps minute call. Then you find you have got Rs.225/- talk time for just Rs.90/-. It seems like a double gain though actually in effect, they both give you just one benefit.
To check this dedicated balance, I used *123*5#
You have just one week validity for this balance.
However, verify with your service provide if you have the above scheme in your area and/or for your connection. I take no responsibility for an irresponsible acts.
Check out if this offer is applicable to you.

The specialty of the new scheme is cost control. One need not pay very high charges for having a basic broadband connection. Just paying Rs.250/- will help user have internet connection at home. This can help one with basic usage of checking emails and reading things online. However, one has to take a bit of care not to download too many video files or images.
One of the most common confusion new users have is regarding what is download limit. Most people think download is charged only when something is specifically downloaded. However, this is not the case. Any time any person uses the internet to browse any website, then actually the content that you see on your browser is because files are downloaded on to your system. In other words, every time you browse any website, you are downloading content. So whether you are just reading news online or reading email, you are downloading files into your computer and it adds into your account usage.
The size of download typically depends on the type of website you are browsing. Plain text requires very less size whereas when image files are downloaded the usage is more. The bigger the size of the image, more is your usage or your download limit will reach faster.
For example, if a person uses his website only for checking email he might not have reached his download at the end of the month. However, a person who uses for both images as well as for browsing reaches faster. The fastest is when a person uses a website like youtube.com where one is downloading videos.
A 2 min video requires nearly 4330 KB whereas as a one page word document uses just around 30 KB.
Now getting back to the topic...
Earlier people who used to take a Rs.250/- connection ended up paying bills like Rs.2000-Rs.10000 !!!! Why ? Because people did not understand what download was... and when the download was reached! Also they were charged very high after the download was reached.
Now after many people suggested, BSNL has made changes which will help normal users understand easily when the download limit is reached. As soon as the download is reached, now a pop-up appears on the screen informing the user that free usage is over. So a wise person can stop using it altogether or use it moderately if he is ready to pay excess. Also SMS alerts on exceeding free usage limit is an added advantage. For example, if your internet connection is being used by children who never intimate you on reach the quota, an SMS to your mobile can help you get control over the situation...
